Marana Mayor Ed Honea dies at 77

He served Marana government for nearly four decades.

Marana Mayor Ed Honea died today. He was 77. Honea served as the town’s mayor for two periods totaling over twenty years. He began his current term in 2005.

He was part of a long-time Marana family, graduating from Marana High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict and worked as a postal service contractor until retiring in 2007.

In a statement, the Town of Marana says Honea served 37 years on the town council and also served on multiple civic organizations, such as the Pima Association of Government.

Services are pending.

Vice Mayor Jon Post will assume the duties of mayor until the position is filled permanently.
