Tucson Mayor Regina Romero released a statement not long after President Biden's announcement praising his work on infrastructure. She also said he has provided the necessary leadership and integrity that the country needed.
Romero finished her statement throwing her support behind Vice President Harris.
Congressman Raul Grijalva who recently called on the president to get out of the race thanked Biden for his life of public service in a statement. He also said Biden "continues to be responsible for more progress than any modern American president."
While Democrats work to figure out who their nominee will be an Arizona name has entered the conversation, Senator Mark Kelly. His name was floated recently as a possible replacement for Biden at the top of the ticket but following Biden's announcement many on social media were talking about him as a possible Vice Presidential candidate with Harris.
For his part, Kelly said on Twitter praising President Biden and saying he "couldn't be more confident that Vice President Kamala Harris is the right person to defeat Donald Trump and lead our country into the future."
The Arizona Republican Party quickly sent out a fundraising statement calling Kelly "wrong for Arizona and wrong for America."
