The Arizona Department of Health Services has decided not to expand the list of qualifying medical conditions for its medical marijuana program.
The decision comes after months of review of proposed conditions, which were migraines, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The department took public testimony and asked the University of Arizona to review scientific data on the conditions and use of medical marijuana for them.
Ultimately, Will Humble, the Department of Health Services director, said there was not enough research showing evidence that medicinal use of marijuana is a benefit to people with those conditions.
The department is required to consider expanding the list of qualifying medical conditions for the medical marijuana program at least twice a year.
Next week the department will begin accepting its second round of petitions from Arizonans who wish to add to the list of conditions approved for medical marijuana use.
