Lerua's, Restoring the Native Flora, Broadway Widening, Golden Boots at Golden Pin Lanes

Lerua’s
For more than 30 years, the most common question at the beloved Tucson Mexican restaurant Lerua's (other than 'Can I take your order') has been: 'When are you closing?' The restaurant is located in the epicenter of the planned project to widen Broadway Boulevard, so owner Michael Hultquist has known since the 1980s his building would be demolished, but he didn't have an answer for when. That's changed. After 97 years in business Lerua's closed its doors for the last time in early February 2019.

Restoring the Native Flora
Spadefoot Nursery is more than just a place to buy plants. They are a community hub for Tucsonans interested in restoring the local ecology. Founded and run by Katy Gierlach, Jared McKinley, and Peter Gierlach (Petey Mesquitey), their emphasis is on growing native plants that support wildlife. Spadefoot Nursery strives to be a safe and inclusive space for flora, fauna, and human alike.

Broadway widening
A look back at the Broadway widening project from 1987.

Golden Boots at Golden Pin Lanes
Local band, Golden Boots, plays the song ‘Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Dream Chaser’ in the parking lot of beloved Tucson bowling alley, Golden Pin Lanes before it was demolished.
