The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lowered the community transmission rate of COVID-19 to medium for nearly every county in Arizona.

The announcement on Thursday afternoon means that people who have a "high risk of severe illness" should check with a doctor about whether or not they should wear a mask indoors, all others do not have to, according to the federal health agency.

In Arizona, only La Paz and Yuma counties are still considered to have high community transmission of COVID-19.

Earlier in the week, only three counties in the state were considered to have a medium transmission rate by the CDC.
