Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild campaigned on a plan for his first 180 days in office. That mark just passed, and the Democrat says he accomplished much.
"I think we got a lot done," Rothschild says. "I've put out a written report today (Tuesday). In going through it, I think we accomplished almost all of it."
In the 23-page self-assessment, Rothschild emphasizes four areas: business stimulation, keeping neighborhoods safe, open communication from government and "environmental leadership."
"We accomplished a lot in each area," the mayor says.
Rothschild admits to having handled a lot of “low-hanging fruit," including beginning to streamline the city's process for building permits.
The city is now cross-training inspectors so that only one person has to visit a construction site therefore making the process move more quickly. The mayor also says people can now check on-line about the status of their permits.
Rothschild says in the coming months, look for more permit streamlining and possible change in the way annexation is accomplished.
Road conditions have led the mayor to say he wants to look at issuing bonds for maintenance and upgrades, and he says that discussion will occur over the next year.
