Drivers traveling on Grant Road will enjoy a break from construction signs and slow traffic for the next few years. Another phase of the major road overhaul is now complete — from Stone Avenue to Park Avenue. Drivers should still be alert for crews finishing up minor work during the next couple weeks.
This is the second of four phases to improve five miles of Grant Road, from Oracle to Swan. Major construction work on the next phases — from Campbell to Country Club and Alvernon to Swan — isn't scheduled to begin until 2022.
The project includes new lanes and crosswalks and improvements to sidewalks and bike lanes. The overall goal is to provide safer and easier transit for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.
Voters approved a half-cent sales tax increase in 2006 for the Grant Road Improvement Project as part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority plan.
