The Arizona Secretary of State’s office released voter registration numbers Thursday.
Enrollment increased by 41,020 voters since January 12. Democrats increased enrollment by 30,623 while Republicans picked up 22,085 voters. The number of independent voters decreased by 11,079.
Arizona law requires voters to register with a party in order to vote in the presidential preference election on March 22.
“We’ve been doing a pretty aggressive information campaign to try and alert independents if they want to participate in the presidential primary that they need to be registered in one of the parties,” said Sec. of State Michele Reagan.
Voter registration for the presidential preference election closed Feb. 22.
