Southern Arizonans Wednesday commemorated those who have served in the military, marking Veterans Day.
Celebrations have been under way all week in various locations, and more were planned for the day itself.
The 96th annual Tucson Veterans Day Parade was scheduled for downtown, starting at 11 a.m.
In Sierra Vista, the 9 a.m. parade was to feature an F-16 flyover by the Arizona Air National Guard.
Elementary and high schools around Tucson planned assemblies throughout the week to honor the veterans. Teachers and students were asked to wear red, white and blue for the day.
“I hope they’ll feel honored and proud that the tradition carries on," said Stefanie Boe, communications director for Tucson Unified School District, "that what they’ve done is not overlooked.”
The Tucson parade is sponsored by the Morgan McDermott American Legion Post No. 7 and other American Legion posts, veterans' organizations and local merchants.
