Rep. Martha McSally hosted a townhall meeting Wednesday morning at Raytheon Missile Systems.
The meeting was a chance for McSally to thank line workers for producing the missiles that are widely used in the U.S. military.
At one point she laughed while looking at dummy version of the Maverick missile, a commonly used air-to-ground explosive.
She said she is the first member of Congress from Raytheon’s congressional district to actually have fired that missile or any other product made at the plant in Tucson.
McSally told the crowd, that Congress needs to end sequestration and continue to fund programs like the Tomahawk cruise missile, which is made at the Tucson facility.
She also addressed an open letter to the Iranian government signed my 46 members of the Senate. That letter warned Iranians that any deal they negotiate could be voided when President Barack Obama leaves office.
McSally said she does not like the deal currently being negotiated with Iran, which is intended to keep the country from becoming a nuclear power.
When asked if she thinks the letter undermines the work of negotiators McSally said, “Perhaps, but again I think it is important that Congress has a role in oversight and if it were actually something that were to be treaty-like, the Senate is supposed to be ratifying that.”
Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, was one of the signatories of the letter. Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, has spoken out about the letter. He told NPR on Tuesday the letter was “not appropriate.”
