A new smart phone application is helping Tucson deal with its graffiti problem.
The “MyTucson” app, developed by Graffiti Protective Coatings and the city, is available as a free download from either the iPhone app store or Android Market.
Users can snap pictures of the graffiti, and then follow the prompts to report the location of the tagging to the city's Department of Transportation.
A GPS function can also be used pinpoint the location of the graffiti so an exact address doesn’t need to be provided.
The information provided will help crews target cleanup areas.
A study released by the city said it spent more than $1 million on graffiti removal in 2012, and the Tucson Police Department made 217 graffiti-related arrests in 2011.
