Play the video above to see these stories on AZ Illustrated Politics for Friday, Nov. 29 with guests Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll:
Host Jim Nintzel sat down for one-on-one interviews with Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll.
Rothschild said the Tucson City Council created new policies and practices for the Tucson Police Department under SB 1070 because Arizona's controversial immigration law was damaging relations between the cops and the Latino community. He talked about the success his office was having with an initiative to provide more housing for homeless veterans, his support for the city's photo-radar traffic enforcement and his desire to see school-resource officers return to city schools.
Carroll said he was happy to see that the Environmental Protection Agency has expressed serious concerns about the impact of the Rosemont Mine on the area's aquifer. He also talked about why he supported a push to hike the gas tax to support more road repair in Pima County, his concern about the shooting of a mountain lion at Colossal Cave earlier this year and his skepticism about allegations about the extortion of developers by Pima County officials that have been made by fellow Supervisor Ally Miller.
