Ventana Medical Systems of Oro Valley is exploring cellular genomics as a means of boosting medical research for cancer cures.
The cutting-edge work is taking Ventana scientists below the cell level to the proteins that make up cells, incliuding the genomic "imprints" for inherited characteristics and diseases.
"It opens a window of understanding about evolution, about disease, about health, about the species that are out there that before, we didn't even have an opportunity to understand," says Eric Walk, chief medical officer of Ventana.
Walk and his team are working on the genomics behind cervical cancer and other diseases, seeking clues from natural sub-cellular makeup and mutations.
