Pilots could begin flying the U.S. military's next-generation fighter jet in airspace over Yuma as early as next week.
The Yuma Sun reports that this month another F-35 is slated to join the three that have already been delivered to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
Eventually the air station will have two squadrons of 16 planes each.
F-35s also are expected to be deployed at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix.
Tucson had sought F-35s for either the Air National Guard station at Tucson International Airport or for Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. No Tucson deployments have been announced.
