Hummingbirds are among the most popular bird-watching targets in the Sonoran desert, and Noreen Geyer-Kordosky works to ensure that as many of them as possible survive.
Geyer-Kordosky is a state licensed rehabilitator who runs Tucson Mountain Hummingbird Rescue. She has a federal migratory bird permit to work with birds that have been injured, orphaned or abandoned.
In 2011, she worked with 63 birds, and in early 2013 she hopes to put together a group of a dozen volunteers who can help her expand her mission.
She says domestic cats pose some of the biggest dangers to hummingbirds and other birds. She recommends that owners keep their pets indoors.
Geyer-Kordosky says anyone interested in volunteering with should send her an email at: ngkordosky@gmail.com.
