Foreclosure activity in the Tucson metropolitan area rose 25.4 percent from the second to the third quarter but was down from last year by 7.1 percent, a foreclosure data company reported Thursday.
One of every 130 Tucson area residential properties had a foreclosure filing made against it in the third quarter, RealtyTrac reported. The Irvine, Calif., company counts a foreclosure filing as a default notice, a notice of trustee or foreclosure sale or a bank repossession.
That made Tucson the 23rd worst metro area in the nation for foreclosure activity. Phoenix ranked 16th with one filing for every 113 properties, and that was an 18.7 percent improvement from the previous quarter.
RealtyTrac reported that foreclosure activity was down from the second to the third quarter in 134 of the 212 metropolitan areas that have populations of 200,000 or more.
