Five health sciences colleges at the University of Arizona will formally report to the Office of the Provost, according to a Wednesday announcement from President Suresh Garimella.

Both the Tucson and Phoenix locations of the College of Medicine, in addition to the Colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health, were previously under the leadership of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences Dr. Michael Dake, who announced April 30 he would be leaving his position effective immediately.

Garimella’s announcement said the position will not be filled moving forward, and the deans will report to the provost appointee Dr. Patricia Prelock, who starts on May 19.

The leadership changes will support “consistent academic standards, deeper cross-college collaboration and a more seamless experience for students, faculty and staff across disciplines,” according to a press release.

University officials said there will be no layoffs or changes to academic programs or course offerings due to the leadership consolidation.
