Country Music Preview Screenings

Audiences had the chance to preview the anticipated 8-part series from acclaimed director Ken Burns.

Arizona Public Media, Old Tucson, The Loft Cinema and KIIM-FM partnered to present free preview screenings of Ken Burns' COUNTRY MUSIC. The screening at Old Tucson included a presentation of a special musical revue called "Spirit of the West", a musical show highlighting western music classics from films. After the screening, Cactus Dave from KIIM-FM's mid-day show led a discussion with musician Bill Ganz and Jim West, author of "The Phoenix Sound: A History of Twang and Rockabilly in Arizona”. The audience at The Loft Cinema were treated to a panel discussion with local country musicians Andy Hersey, Billy Shaw, Jr., Drew Cooper, and Jessica Northey-Shaw, creator of Country Music's #CMchat, Country Sway and Arizona Originals.

COUNTRY MUSIC is an 8-part, 16-hour documentary series directed and produced by Ken Burns, written and produced by Dayton Duncan, and produced by Julie Dunfey. Explore the history of a uniquely American art form and learn how country music evolved ofver the course of the 20th century. From its deep and tangled roots in ballads, blues and hymns performed in small settings, to its worldwide popularity, countyr music eventually emerged as America's music.

COUNTRY MUSIC airs on PBS 6 at 9 p.m. on Sept. 15.
