First Annual Marconi Award Luncheon

Celebrating donors who support student engagement at AZPM.

2018 Marconi Award Luncheon honoring Therese Berg

AZPM honored donors who support student engagement at a special event on April 20.

Dozens attended the luncheon in Studio A, including AZPM's 20 student employees, Col. Kent Laughbaum (USAF, Ret.) Chair of the AZPM Community Advisory Board, Allison Vaillancourt, Vice President of Business Affairs and Human Resources at the University of Arizona, and very special guest Therese Berg.

Therese Berg was the first recipient of AZPM’s Marconi Award, named for the Nobel Prize-winning Italian inventor and engineer who is credited with developing the modern radio, radio-based communications, and radar.

As a counselor and teacher, Therese enhanced the lives of high school students throughout a career of selfless service spanning more than 40 years. Her continued commitment to education is evident in her support of the University of Arizona and Arizona Public Media.

It is because of the generous contributions from Therese and others like her that AZPM is able to offer internships and hands-on training opportunities to students. To find out more about how you can become involved in AZPM's mission to prepare students for the professional world, visit
