Arizona Public Media Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity Tucson

Efforts help give families a hand up and eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life.

AZPM Employees volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in early April.

Several AZPM employees and their family members volunteered at a recent Habitat for Humanity home-building project on Tucson’s south side. The group took on a variety of projects, including digging trenches for electrical and water lines, securing exterior wall framing, and installing roof liners in preparation for shingles.

“Volunteers are a vital part of Arizona Public Media’s day-to-day operations,” said Jack Gibson, AZPM General Manager. “Hundreds of volunteers dedicate their time and skills to AZPM throughout the year. Participating in community volunteer opportunities is a way for AZPM to give back.”

For many AZPM employees, spending a Saturday helping families realize the dream of owning a home was the least they could do.

“I think home ownership brings a sense of pride that extends into the community,” said Colleen Greer, AZPM Web Site Designer/Developer. “I enjoy working alongside the future homeowners, and sharing the excitement and anticipation they feel building their house from the ground up.”

Other recent AZPM staff volunteer efforts include cooking meals at Ronald McDonald House and painting Ben’s Bells. For more information about AZPM visit azpm.org.
