Poet/essayist and ecocritic Jonathon Skinner, creator of ecopoetics, one of the first journals to feature art that exhibits intersections between writing and ecology, reads from his collection about the convergence of biodiversity and cultural diversity on Thursday, October 22nd, 8:00 p.m.
Juliana Spahr, a poet of national acclaim, will read from her latest work on Friday, October 23rd, 8:00 p.m.>
Composer and sound artist David Dunn will give a lecture/presentation about his work on soundscapes, which use electro-acoustic resources, voice, non-human living systems and traditional instruments on October 29th, 8:00 p.m.
A Fellowship for Southern Arizona Poets, the Mary Ann Campau Fellowship, will be receiving applications until its deadline on November 20th. This fellowship provides a $1000 stipend and an opportunity to read in the Poetry Center Reading Series. All Southern Arizona poets are invited to apply.
Dr. Allan HamiltonThe Scalpel and the Soul
Dr. Allan J. Hamilton, a neurosurgeon and professor of surgery at The University of Arizona, has been awarded a 2009 Nautilus Silver Award for his book The Scalpel and the Soul: Encounters with Surgery, the Supernatural, and the Healing Power of Hope, which tells the stories of patients he's encountered during his years in the operating room. The Nautilus Book Awards recognize inspirational and "world-changing" books, as judged by a team of book reviewers, librarians, authors, editors, bookstore owners and publishing industry leaders.
